Full-duty-stack tariff estimates for importers
Use a verified 10-digit HTS code and your shipment costs to calculate a deterministic duty and landed-cost breakdown. The quote uses the stored general rate and does not invent country-specific surcharges.
Give the quote the right context.
The quote uses these shipment details and keeps freight and insurance separate from duty:
- Product description: the plain-language item being imported.
- HTS code: a verified 10-digit classification is required for a duty quote.
- Country of origin: where the product is considered originating for customs purposes.
- Declared value: the value used to frame the future duty estimate.
- Freight and insurance: user-supplied amounts included separately in landed cost.
- Shipping method: ocean methods apply HMF; air and parcel do not.
Verified data rule: An omitted, unknown, or unverified HTS code returns a 422 response because this calculator never estimates a missing tariff rate.

Tariff calculator questions
This calculator reports only the verified general rate stored for the matched HTS row and the documented fee formulas below.
What inputs are needed for the tariff estimate?
Provide a product description, verified 10-digit HTS code, country of origin, declared value, user-supplied freight and insurance, and a shipping method.
What happens if the HTS code is missing or unsupported?
The API returns a 422 unsupported-input response. It does not guess a tariff rate; provide another verified 10-digit code or confirm the classification with a customs professional.
How does freight affect the estimate?
Freight and insurance are user-supplied dollar amounts and are added separately to the landed-cost total. They are never replaced with a benchmark.
How are MPF and HMF calculated?
MPF is 0.3464% of declared value, clamped to $32.71 minimum and $634.62 maximum. HMF is 0.125% of declared value for ocean LCL/FCL only; it is zero for air and parcel shipments.
Why must results be verified with a customs professional?
Tariff treatment can depend on the final 10-digit HTS classification, origin rules, exclusions, and other duties. Any future estimate should be checked against the current tariff schedule and a qualified customs professional before entry.
